Bri Dean - ' Fernweh'
about fernweh

Bri Dean (under the alias, 'Fernweh') is a floral sculpturist based in the traditional and unceded territories of many Indigenous Nations, including the W̱SÁNEĆ people, and the Lək̓ʷəŋín̓əŋ-speaking peoples of the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, also known as Victoria, BC, Canada.

At the spry age of three, Bri began their journey in the floral industry alongside her grandparents' (Nanny & Pappy) floral shop in Surrey, BC. This shop was formerly known as 'Blooms', which ran successfully for 50+ years. Bri spent their earliest days filling water tubes, playing with flowers and absorbing the "legacy" of this artistry passed down through multiple generations. For over thirty years, Bri continues to create with intention while holding a deep appreciation/understanding of their surroundings

When it stems down to Bri's art practice, they seek to evoke a sense of play, desire and dark allure, rooted in sustainably sourced, foraged florals and recycled materials. These installations primarily include wearables, hanging, wall and upright pieces that have been used in a variety of projects, celebrations and collaborations. Their work has been displayed throughout different regions of North America (Canada & US) and United Kingdom - with the hopes to explore more countries around the globe.
